Introduction to the School

1.  History and Timeline:

In 1956, Department of Wireless Electronic Parts (also known as Department No. 3) was set up when Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering was just established under the care of Premier Zhou Enlai

In 1959, the department (Department of Wireless Electronic Parts) was named as Department of Wireless Electronic Materials & Devices, which had 3 disciplines: Discipline of Design & Manufacture of Isolation Material, Resistor and Capacitor (No. 301), Discipline of Design & Manufacture of Semiconductor Materials & Devices (No. 302), and Discipline of Design & Manufacture of Magnetic Material & Devices (No. 303)

In 1972, Department of Wireless Electronic Materials & Devices was named as Department of Wireless Electronic Devices & Materials

In 1978, Discipline No. 301 and Discipline No. 303 were merged into Discipline of Electronic Materials

In 1983, Discipline of Chemistry was allocated to Department No. 3. Later, Department No. 3 was named as Department of Microelectronics Technology & Electronic Materials

In 1989, our university decided to repeal Department of Microelectronics Technology & Electronic Materials and then split it into 2 new departments: one is Department of Microelectronics Science & Engineering (also known as the Department No. 3), covering the Discipline of Semiconductor Materials & Devices and the Institute of Microelectronics; the other one is Department of Materials Science & Engineering (also known as the Department No. 15), containing the Discipline of Electronics Materials & Devices, the Discipline of Magnetic Physics & Devices, and the Discipline of Applied Chemistry and the Microscopic Analysis Center for Material.

In 1992, School of Information Materials Engineering was set up based on Department No. 15, covering the Discipline of Electronic Materials Engineering (No. 15), the Discipline of Magnetic Engineering (No. 17), and the Discipline of Applied Chemistry (No. 18).

In 1994, the Discipline of Magnetic Physics & Devices was incorporated into the Discipline of Electronics Materials & Devices

In 2001, the Department of Microelectronics Science & Engineering and school of Information Materials Engineering were merged as School of Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics, covering the Discipline of Microelectronics Science & Engineering, the Discipline of Electronics Science & Technology, and the Discipline of Applied Chemistry.

In 2015, the National Pilot School of Microelectronics had been established based on the existing School of Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics. It is one of the initial nine national pilot schools for microelectronics approved and supported by Ministry of Education, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Finance, and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. It is also the only national pilot schools for microelectronics in the Southwest region.

the State Key Laboratory of Electronic Thin Films & Integrated Devices (Ministry of Science and Technology);

the National Engineering Research Center: The National Research & Engineering Center for Electromagnetic Radiation Material;

the National Base for International Science & Technology Cooperation;

The National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electronic Information Materials & Devices; 

the National 111 Intelligence Base: the National 111 Intelligence Base for Microwave Materials & Devices;

the National Talents Training Base: the National IC Talents-Training Base;

the National Industrialization Base: the National IC Design and Incubation Center (Chengdu);

five Provincial Engineering Research Center:

the Engineering Research Center for Electromagnetic-Shielding Material;

the Key Laboratory for Multi-Spectrum Absorbing Materials & Structures (Ministry of Education);

the Key Laboratory of Electronic-Information Materials (Ministry of Information and Industry);

the Key Laboratory of Power Semiconductors & Smart Power IC (Ministry of Information and Industry);

the Key Laboratory of ULSI Design (Ministry of Information and Industry)
