From July 31 to August 27, sixteen students from School of Electronic Engineering, School of Communication and Information, School of Life Science and Technology, and School of Management and Economics went to University of Ottawa, Canada, for a one-month cultural exchange program.

The students received training in language skills and practice in authentic linguistic environment, in which they also learned a lot about Canadian history and culture. Experienced language teachers at University of Ottawa had carefully designed teaching plans and prepared special teaching materials and training tasks for the Chinese students. After the short period of four weeks, they successfully helped the students to improve their actual language performance by adopting a step-by-step teaching approach.

At the intervals of their language training, the Chinese students attended lectures on the university’s international students programs by Prof. Charles Chen, the Chinese Program Manager of the International Department, Mr. Hall, Overseas Students Recruitment Officer, and Prof. Jason Zhang, Vice-dean of School of Engineering.

The Ottawa professors were deeply impressed by the UESTC students’open-mindedness, sensitive thinking mode, positive learning attitude, proper manners and foreign language potentials. They enjoyed working with the UESTC students and hoped to see them again at University of Ottawa in the near future.
