Olivier VAYSSET, the consul general of France in Chengdu visited UESTC

On the morning of February 28, the French consul general in Chengdu Olivier VAYSSET visited UESTC with his team. The president Li Yanrong and vice-president Wang Houjun met the visitors on Qingshuihe campus. During the meeting, both sides exchanged in-depth views on strengthening bilateral educational cooperation. Jean Luc TISSIER (Chief Representative of the Alliance Française in China), Violaine LELOUP (Technology and Education Commissioner of the Consulate General for France in Chengdu), Chrystelle FILLON (French director of Alliance Française in Chengdu), Gregory ROBERT (Director of Campus France) and the related officials from the International Office of UESTC attended the meeting.

President Li showed welcome to the honorable visitors and expressed that the Sino-French relation had a long history and the two nations have cooperated extensively in technology, education and other areas. Last Mid-Autumn Festival, Université de Montpellier and UESTC jointly inaugurated the Confucius Institute. He also said that UESTC was similar to ECOLE D’INGENIEUR in France in professional features and comprehensive universities in their scale. Our university has made tremendous contributions to Chinese IT industry and we founded Schoolof Medicinelast December. Mr. Li believed that the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations will deepen the continuing China-France partnership.

Olivier VAYSSET thanked for the warm welcome. He said that UESTC played an important role in Chinese electronic information field and they hoped the cooperation could be deepened and strengthened. The Confucius Institute set up last year was the wisdom of both sides and the witness of friendship between China and France. He welcomed teachers and students of UESTC to France to visit and do exchange activities.

Jean Luc TISSIER showed gratitude to the full supports from UEATC for Alliance Française. He pointed that Chengdu had a large population and rapid development of internationalization, which meant that there existed huge potential of learning French. He hoped to receive continuous management support from UESTC so that Alliance Française could obtain long-term development.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed development strategies and collaboration programmes. After the conference, Olivier VAYSSET and his team were showed around the Qingshuihe campus.
