UESTC delegation attended the first anniversary celebration of the Confucius Ins

On September 27th, Chairman of UESTC University Council Wang Zhiqiang led a delegation to Montpellier, attending the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute all over the world and the 1st anniversary of the Confucius Institute in Montpellier.

On the opening ceremony, Wang Zhiqiang delivered a speech in which he expressed gratitude for the support for the Confucius Institute given by Montpellier government, school district and Université Montpellier II. He thought highly of the performance of the Confucius Institute and hoped that it could make more contribution to promote Sino-French cultural communication. He pointed that UESTC would continue to provide all kinds of support for the development of the Confucius Institute.

President of Université Montpellier II Michel Robert and Deputy President François, Deputy President of Université de MontpellierChristian Lagarde, Deputy Mayor of Montpellier Gert and China's deputy consul general in Marseille Zhang Wei attended the ceremony. All of them gave high praise to the achievements that the Confucius Institute made, showed gratitude for support from all sections of the community. They also believe that a bright future is waiting for the Confucius Institute.

In the inscription Wang Zhiqiang wrote, “To learn a culture is to start a new life.”

During the ceremony, various cultural activities including lion dance, tai chi, martial arts demonstration, and experience activities in calligraphy and tea art attracted thousands of citizens to participate in the event.

On September 29th, UESTC delegation respectively met with leaders for Montpellier government and Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier III, discussing matters in cooperation and communication.

Directors from UoG-UESTC Joint School, School of Foreign Languages and Office of Int'l Cooperation of UESTC participated in the visit.
