Guest from IET and British Consulate-General Chongqing visited UESTC

On the morning of May 29th, the IET’s Director of International Operations Mr. Ian Mercer, Consulate of Culture and Education of the British Consulate-General in Chongqing Mrs. Dawn Long and their group visited UESTC. Vice President Xiong Caidong met the guests at Qingshuihe Campus.

Xiong Caidong extended a warm welcome to the guests. “UESTC is crowned with ‘the cradle of Chinese national electronic industry’; although located in western China, it shows quite obvious comprehensive advantages in electronic information domain,” he said, “We hope to build broader and deeper cooperation with educational and scientific institutions in the UK with the help of the IET and the British Consulate-General in Chongqing. UESTC will be proved as a very trustworthy partner.”

Ian Mercer expressed gratitude to UESTC’ effort for hosting the IET global English speech contest (Present Around the World, PATW). “Given that last year’s PATW winner in China final Pu Xiaofei came from UOG-UESTC Joint School, I’d like to see more wonderful competitions in UESTC this year. May I wish PATW China final a great success!” he said.

Dawn Long expressed that the British Consulate-General in Chongqing works to promote Chinese-English culture exchange, which has set up a good relationship of cooperation with UESTC for a long time since the IELTS Exam Centre’s establishment. She and her group deem it a great honor to be invited to attend this event. She mainly introduced some cases where the UK cooperates with other Chinese colleges and universities at the meeting and expects to make more chances of cooperation and exchange together with UESTC.

Persons from Office of International Cooperation & Exchange and UOG-UESTC Joint School attended the meeting.
