On October 15th, Chairman of UESTC University Council Wang Zhiqiang met President of TELECOM Bretagne Dr. Paul Friedel on Qingshuihe Campus. Vice President Hu Haoquan and relevant officials from Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.

Wang Zhiqiang extended a warm welcome for Paul Friedel’s visit and introduced him the history and achievements of UESTC as well as the development and change of Chinese colleges and universities. “As one of the key universities supported by Chinese government’s ‘985 Project’ and ‘211 Project’ for high education, UESTC is accelerating implementation of following three prime strategies — strengthening UESTC through ‘talent development’, ‘discipline expansion’, and ‘internationalization’, to upgrade itself into a world-class university leading the electronic information field”, he said. Considering TELECOM Bretagne as an excellent college famous for its cultivation of engineers and always a great academic partner of UESTC, he hoped both sides can further deepen their cooperation in fields like talent-cultivation and scientific research to reach mutual development.

Paul Friedel said that TELECOM Bretagne is a public institution under the aegis of the Ministry for Industry in France and maintains close relationships with industry. Having a lot in common with UESTC, TELECOM Bretagne also looks on “internationalization” as an important development strategy, owning a large network of academic partners, including China, around the world. He really appreciated the outstanding performance UESTC students have made in TELECOM Bretagne and welcomed more of them to further their study in France. He also hoped there being TELECOM Bretagne students cultivated in UESTC one day. Since two schools have maintained good cooperative relationship nearly ten years, he looked forward to deeper cooperation in fields like joint doctoral training and teacher’s academic exchange in future.

Paul Friedel visited UESTC library and Qingshuihe Campus with the company of Hu Haoquan.
