Melbourne University Vice-chancellor Visited UESTC

On April 6, Simon Evans, vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne, visited our college and was warmly received by the Vice President Xiong Caidong on Qingshuihe campus.\\

During the meeting, Professor Evans introduced his college, the University of Melbourne,  including its developing history, talents training model, latest advances in Medicine, Bioscience, Chemical Engineering as well as Materials Sciences and other disciplines. He said that the Melbourne University has established cooperative modes, such as short-time exchanges , “2+2 project”, “2+1+1 project”, with many colleges. He also conveyed his welcome that students from UESTC went to his university to launch some exchanges activities. Meanwhile, The University of Melbourne hopes to build a cooperation bridge and platform with UESTC through fostering doctoral students, working to conduct scientific research, and the Sister State/Province Relations between state of Victoria and Sichuan province will further close the partnership between the colleges.\

The head of International Cooperation and Exchange office introduced the history of the UESTC, faculty and facilities, outstanding disciplines and research platform respectively, and illustrated the basic situation of fundamental studies, research center with UESTC characteristics and international cooperation and briefly reviewed cooperation with Australian universities. She stated that the two universities could channel their efforts to strengthen cooperation and exchanges on the basis of available Summer language training agents, China Scholarship Council as well as visiting scholar programs. From now on, UESTC would recommend more students major in Bioscience, Mathematics, Material sciences, Computer and Chemistry to exchange their views. Both sides agreed to launch preparation work related to the outstanding undergraduate program and the joint training of masters after negotiations.

Officials from Melbourne University’s Affairs Office in China, Victoria State Government of Australia as well as Australia Council Chengdu office met with each other on the same day.
