Academician Shenggang Liu Won Top Prize of IRMMW-THz Field

On September 28th, the good news from the 41st International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz) hosted in Copenhagen that Professor Shenggang Liu from UESTC, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has won the 2016 Exceptional Service Award, the top prize awarded by the IRMMW-THz Society, in grateful recognition of his excellent accomplishment and contributions.



The Exceptional Service Award puts strict requirements on winners that only scientists who received the Kenneth J Button Prize, hosted the IRMMW-THz and became IOC member of the IRMMW-THz are qualified to be nominated and elected in a secret ballot by the Committee. Till now, Academician Shenggang Liu was the first in China and the third around the world winning this award.


What’s more, the Kenneth J Button Prize, the prerequisite for the Exceptional Service Award, goes to only one outstanding scientist making original contributions to the IRMMW-THz annually and is renowned as “Nobel Prize” in this field. Prof.
Shenggang Liu, Academician of CAS, world-renowned expert in microwave electronics and forerunner in the area of IRMMW-THz, was invited to serve as the nominator for Nobel Prize in Physics by the Nobel Committee for Physics of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences in the year of 1999 and 2000 and was nominated for the Albert Einstein Award in 2000.
