IGSF, sponsored by China Scholarship Council(CSC), has been held for seven times in succession since 2009. Its purposes include coordinating the implement of state-level graduate programs, helping Chinese students to know more about graduate scholarship information in overseas famous universities as well as strengthening graduate education cooperation among domestic universities and foreign high-level universities.

So far, this event has provided a face-to-face communication platform for a total of nearly 50,000 outstanding domestic students and 180 international famous universities from 24 countries. This year, IGSF will be held at four stations. The one at UESTC, preceded by the first and second stations at Tsinghua University and Zhengzhou University on October 15 and 17 respectively, is the third one. Later the fourth station will be at University of Science and Technology of China on October 22.

A total of 75 prestigious universities from 12 countries, as well as institutes including CSC, Australian Embassy (China), Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy (China) and Council for Higher Education of Israelhad their booths at Chengdu station. There are many famous universities at IGSF, so how to choose the target school is another crucial issue. He Xin, a second-year Ph.D. candidate from School of Optoelectronic Information of UESTC waiting beside the booth of Imperial College London, suggested that, “You can refer to the comprehensive ranking of the university when you are selecting the target school, but more importantly you should look at the rank of related majors in the industry.”

“It’s a big world; I’ve always planned to see it!” said Zhou Yujiu, a first-year Ph.D. candidate from School of Optoelectronic Information of UESTC. He preferred American universities as there is a better business environment, industrial environment and entrepreneurial environment, which provides a favorable condition for doing research, finding jobs or running business. For his research interests mainly in optoelectronic materials, he believes that his best choice goes with the United States, where he is capable of integrating basic research and applied research more closely in future researches, as well as combining academic research with industrial application.
