On January 15th,2017, UESTC “Chemistry”first squeezed into ESI(Essential Science Indicators)top 1%. Following “Engineering”, “Computer Science”, “Physics”and “Materials Science”, it became the 5th subject ranking the ESI top 1% in UESTC.

For a further look of contributions those departments and individuals made for the pleasant outcome,Library and Graduate School analyzed relevant informations behind by using two data bases Web of Science and Incites. With the guidance of ESI statistics rules, they mainly searched all papers published on ESI chemistry journals and by UESTC teachers and students, as well as citations per paper, author's subordinate department, etc. One of the rulesused in the analysiswas “For a single paper, only a single author”, which meant the author was screened according to a priority rating“the first author, correspondent author and the first participant”.

According to the above principles, our school’s chemistry papers have covered 21 subordinate departments and 530 authors in the last decade. Another searching method to calculate the contributions was to compare the citations of papers from subordinate departments or individuals and UESTC chemistry subject.

It found that top 5 contributive subordinate departments are School of Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics, School of Optoelectronic Information, School of Physical Electronics, School of Life Science and Technology, and Zhongshan Institute, with a corresponding contribution ratio 35%, 25.7%, 20.9%, 5.9%, 3.2% and the papers published volume takes up 34.6%, 18.9%,17.7%,8.3% and 3.8% respectively. Top 5 individuals that made great contributions to break into ESI 1% are Associate Prof. Zhou Yungang from School of Physical Electronics(4.4%), Associate Prof. Gu De'en from School of Optoelectronic Information(4.3%), postgraduate Chen Tao from School of Physical Electronics(3.1%), Prof.Tai Huiling from School of Optoelectronic Information(3.0%) and Prof. Wang Zhiguo from School of Physical Electronics (2.8%). The papers published volume takes up 1.6%, 0.4%, 0.2%, 0.7% and 1.4% respectively. Meanwhile, the only ESI highly cited paper in UESTC chemistry is from Chen Tao, a postgraduate in School of Physical Electronics. His supervisor is Prof. Zeng Baoqing. This paper was published on Macromolecules in 2010. Till the end of 2016, his paper has been cited for 166 times.
