American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has recently published its list of 2017 elected fellows, our Prof. Yao Dezhong, the Director of Life Science and Technology School at UESTC, was successfully on the list.
Founded in 1991, AIMBE is a famous non-profit academic organization internationally in medical and biological engineering and has pooled most world-leading academic elites of biomedical engineering. All of them are the most innovative, astounding scholars and engineers in the field of medical and biological engineering. Their significant contributions to biomedical instruments, medical equipment, disease treatment and policy-maker of public health are crucial and far-reaching. National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) under National Institutes of Health (NIH) was founded by the promotion of AIMBE, so AIMBE is the founding member of NIBIB. All fellows of AIMBE are the world top 2% scholars in biomedical engineering and all fellows will be elected by AIMBE’s all the current fellows through vote after recommendation of AIMBE and deliberation and approval of outstanding biomedical engineering scholars. It is said that 145 fellows are added in 2017 and now AIMBE has a total number of 1500 fellows
Prof. Yao Dezhong was elected for his outstanding contributions to biophysical and mathematical models of the EEG and FMRI and to talents cultivation.
Prof. Yao Dezhong is now the vice President of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (CSBE), member of Chinese Cognitive Science Society (CSCS), and a renowned scholar of brain information science in China. He was awarded as the national outstanding youth in 2005, Yangtse River Scholar in 2006, and national excellent teacher in 2010. His major academic contributions: (1) EEG zero reference electrode standardization technique, for which he is reputed as Rosetta Stone in EEG and his technique has been applied by scholars over 18 countries in the world; (2) free brain wave music, for which he is appraised as the man who perfectly combined science and art; (3) information fusion technology of EEG-MRI from which he has discovered new space for digging out more about the brain function and disease information. Prof. Yao Dezhong has published more 160 SCI dissert Papers and his papers have been included in the Chinese highly cited list of Elsevier as the 3 years in a row from 2014. He founded the key laboratory under Neuro Information Education Ministry and International Associated Research Center under the Department of Science and Technology. And he has supervised 33 graduated PhD (among them, one has been aided financially by Chinese National Outstanding Youth organization, and one by Chinese National Excellent Youth organization). Prof. Yao Dezhong has made great contributions to the development of UESTC’s biomedical engineering.
