UESTC delegates visited Italy and Israel

From 21st to 25st, April, a delegation led by Shen Xiaorong, UESTC Deputy Party Secretary, visited Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano, POLIMI), Israel Council for Higher Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel in Asia, University of Haifa and Bar-Ilan University successively.

On 21st, April, delegates went to POLIMI and had an in-depth talk with the vice-president in charge of Chinese collaboration affairs, Chief of Foreign Affairs Office, Chairman of Applied Electronics and other professors.

Vice-president Noci introduced the history and development of POLIMI, and sketched out the disciplinary features and one of its name cards——cooperation innovation platform integrated with production, teaching and research. He especially noted the development strategy for POLIMI to find a righteous and robust way to develop in china. As a distinguished expert appointed by Sichuan Province, he was fully involved in promoting the collaborations between Italy and Sichuan Province. With a purpose of making further contributions to trade and technology collaborations, he hoped POLIMI could strengthen the collaborations on humanities, scientific research, teaching methods and commercializing of technology and innovation, etc., with UESTC.

Shen Xiaorong expressed her appreciation of the warm reception byPOLIMI. She traced back thehistory about mutual exchanges, pointed outthat there are certainly many common points shared by the two universities as both are taking engineering and multiple-disciplines’ development as the focus, thus more areas for further collaborations could beexpected.

The two sides were looking forward to launch summer exchange programs, 3+2 joint training program and term exchange programssoon and discussed the collaboration mode with enterprises to achieve value co-creation. The delegates also visited the wind tunnel lab of POLIMI.

The morning on 23rd, delegates visited Israel Council for Higher Education. Head of the Council introduced higher education system of Isreal, focus of government in the following 5 years. From disciplinary platform, virtual teaching, international collaborations and students exchanges, the status of its communication with China was also presented. It was happy to see UESTC students participated in the governmental scholarship programs, while this year will see another ten students. Shen Xiaorong hoped UESTC can deepen the collaborations with Israel Universities and the plan-to-build Research Institute of Israel could be supported by Israel Council for Higher Education. Under the guidance of governmental cooperation framework, more collaborations on scientific and students exchanges as well as innovative researches are at the corner.

In the afternoon, delegates visited Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel and met with Director of Asia & Oceania Dept., Hagai Shagrir. Hagai Shagrir picked up the brotherhood story between China and Israel, and mapped out the scenario of future development of friendship. He expected to see more and more outstanding faculties and students become a part of China-Israel Youth Plan, upholding the friendship and leading the trend of future science. Shen Xiaorong also briefly introduced UESCT history, features and development strategies, and expressed an interest to establish Research Institute of Israel.Then,focused on Israel culture research, innovation management and transformation of scientific and technological achievements of the institute, delegates also communicated with Tuvya Gring, an expert in Israel cultural issues, and Dr. Alon Talmor who successfully started three companies specialized in AI technology.

On 24th, delegates went to University of Haifa, in the north of Israel. Participants included Director of School of International Relations Department, Dean of School of International Studies, Dean of School of Management and serval professors from Department of Economics and Management and School of Political Science. Philosophy of Schooling, disciplinary construction and foreign exchange of UESTC were reiterated there. Shen Xiaorong said, Haifa, giving birth to this world-known university, is one of the sister cities of Chengdu. And, UESTC is willing to collaborate with University of Hafai, especially its school of Political Sciences and Economic. This year,8 UETSC students will visit this university for scholarly exchange.

Professors of University of Haifa introduced their disciplinary strength and cooperative programs for international exchanges. They also showed strong desire to collaborate with UESTCso as to pursueacademic exchanges and talents cultivation. School of International Relations Department also hoped some summer campsand fresh exchange channelscould be achieved.

On 25th, April, the delegation visited Bar-Ilan University and communicated with the Director of Department of International Studies and a batch of professors from School of Economics, School of Education and School of Engineering. Both sides had a thorough discussion on the plan-to-build R&D and Innovation centre and some topics covering future science, AI, human society, economics of education and innovative policy studies. Prof.Dror Fixler, famous for Nanophotonics research, economist Elise Brezis and futurist Prof.David Passig accepted the invitation to visit UESTC in near future.

The delegation also visited School of Polonsky Humanity Arts and Social Science of Van Leer Institute and the National Innovational Centre. As a paradise full of imaginationand innovation, Israel contributes a lot to modern agriculture, military technologies, health care, public hygiene, internet development and informatization. This country impressed all the delegates a lot with its unique charms and vitality. Head of School of Management and Economics, head of School of Political Science and Public Administration and head ofOffice of International cooperation and Exchange accompanied the goodwill visit.
