UESTC Ranking among Top 300 in ARWU

Released on 15th August, ARWU 2017, one of the four most famous university rankings in the world, showed the top 500 research universities in the world. 45 universities from mainland China, including UESTC, were on the list. 2017 witnessed a great progress of UESTC with its world ranking rose up to the range of 201-200 and its national ranking to the range of 10-18, compared to the world rankings in the range of 301-400 and the national rankings in between 19-31 in 2016.


Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities or ARWU initially published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Graduate School of Education (the former Institute of Higher Education) in 2003 was the first comprehensive world university ranking in the world. Since 2009, ARWU has then been published by Shanghai Ranking and all rights are reserved.

ARWU is known forits objective, transparent and stable evaluation. All the data ARWU uses is objective international index and from the third party including the number of the alumni and teachers who received the Nobel Prize and Fields Medal, the number of Highly Cited Researchers, the number of papers published inNature and Science, the number of papers collected in SCIE and SSCI, and the teachers’ average academic performance. 

As one of the world’s most influential and authoritative university rankings, ARWU has been widely reported and frequently cited in the world. Governments and universities in a lot of countries have been setting up strategic goals and plans for development and taking various measures to be more competitive in the world based on ARWU.
