The “2017 Sichuan Opera Training Camp for Foreigners” was officially launched on October 17. The camp is hosted by Publicity Department of CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, and co-sponsored by Chengdu Evening News. The first "foreigners Sichuan Opera learning group", composed of international students including over ten from UESTC, started to experience the amazing Sichuan opera culture at Chengdu Jin Jiang Theater, the birthplace of Sichuan Opera, boasting a history of about 300 years.

At the launching ceremony, Mr. Lan Guanglin, Sichuan Opera predecessor, and Mr. Lei Yin, director of Chengdu Sichuan Opera Academy, etc. showed students around the Sichuan Opera Museum, and gave a detailed account of the historical development of Sichuan Opera and its unique charm. Students experienced the charm of Sichuan Opera for the first time. They listened carefully and took pictures one after another.

Franco, a second-year graduate student from School of Information and Software Engineering, UESTC, comes from Venezuela. He has a wealth of experience in Western opera performance. During the Sichuan opera learning, he was impressed by the collision of East and West cultures. Franco said: “I’ve never experienced Sichuan opera before, but now I think it’s very interesting. I hope after learning, I can put on costumes, and perform a real Sichuan drama!”
