Recently, UESTC Top 10 News Events and Top 10 Figures for the Year 2011 have been revealed after a long online voting session and the final panel decision.

The UESTC Top 10 News Events for the Year 2011 include:

1.     UESTC Receives Continued and Concentrated Support from Ministry of Education and Sichuan Provincial People’s Government Agreement through Project 985 in Its Efforts to Make World-Class Reputation and Meet International High Standards

2.     UESTC Launches 12th Five-Year Development Plans

3.     UESTC Makes Outstanding Achievements in Faculty Building with 1 More Elected as Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 included in the State Project of “Talent 1000”, 5 included in the State Project of “Youth Talent 1000”, 3 Chosen as “Excellent Young Scholars” and 1 Conferred “Chinese Young Scientist Award”

4.   UESTC Celebrates 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese Communist Party and 55th University Anniversary

5.   UESTC Establishes School of Energy Science and Engineering

6.   UESTC Launches Its First Research Project Whose Funds Break the 100 Million Yuan Record—Millimeter and Terahertz Wireless Communication Development

7.     UESTC Holds Its First Working Conference on International Exchange and Cooperation and Puts Internationalization in the Core of Strategic Development

The UESTC Top 10 Figures for the Year 2011 include:

1.     Prof. LI Yanrong

who was elected as member of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2011, the eighth person from UESTC to gain membership of either the Chinese Academy of Science or the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

2.     Prof. LIU Shenggang

a senior member of the Chinese Academy of Science, who won from "Pride of China and Power of Chengdu—2011 Campaign for World's Most Influential Figures in Chengdu" the honorary title of World's Most Influential Figure in Chengdu representing the science and education circles.

3.     Prof. ZHANG Bo

who led a team of researchers working on the development and application of critical technology of new power semiconductor devices and won in January 2011 the Second-class National Award for the Advancement of Science in 2010.

4.     Prof. Keith KENDRICK

who came to work full-time at UESTC in September 2011 with the State Project of Experts 1000, the first full-time faculty member at UESTC from Europe.

5.     Prof. ZHOU Tao

who won the Young Chinese Scientist Award in 2011 at the age of twenty-nine, the youngest to win the award for the year.

6.     Prof. GONG Yubin

who obtained the National Fund for Excellent Young Scientists in 2011, as a reward for his twenty years’ persistent exploration in high-power microwave electrovacuum components and high-power microwave technology.

7.     Prof. YANG Shiwen

who obtained the National Fund for Excellent Young Scientists in 2011, which would support his work in antenna technology.

8.     Prof. CHEN Huafu

who also obtained the National Fund for Excellent Young Scientists in 2011, gaining support for his strenuous efforts in cross-disciplinary research involving life science and information technology.

9.     Mr. WANG Zegao

a student of Grade 2010 from School of Microelectronics and Solid-state Materials, who published an academic paper on the American Chemistry Society journal of ACS Nano as the first author.

10.    Mr. ZHOU Xiong

a graduate student from School of Communication and  Information Engineering Laboratory of Communication Integrated Circuits, who contributed an academic paper to ISSCC as the first author and received acceptance in 2011.
