Vice-president Wang Houjun Leads Delegation to France

From March 12 to 16, Vice-president Wang Houjun led a UESTC delegation to visit Universite Montpellier 2, France, as an attempt to carry out the cooperative agreement reached between the two universities last May.



Vice-president Wang Houjun had discussions with UM2 President Prof. Herin on matters concerning faculty and student exchange programs and the joint establishment of a Confucius Institute at UM2. the two sides agreed to launch a student exchange and internship training program in autumn this year. The delegation also paid a visit to Madame Danan, Deputy Mayor of Montpellier in charge of international affairs. Madame Danan said that UESTC and UM2 both had similar disciplinary background and shared common views on education and university management and therefore would play an important role in the economic and scientific development in the two sister cities of Montpellier and Chengdu. She expressed that the Montpellier municipal government would give full support to the cooperation between the two universities, especially to the establishment of Confucius Institute.

The UESTC delegation also called at the Chinese Embassy in France and met with Ms. Zhu Xiaoyu, Minister-counselor at the Embassy’s Education Department. After being informed on the development in UESTC’s cooperation with French universities, Ms. Zhu gave explanations on how Sino-French joint education program usually operated and how things were going on with Confucius Institutes in France. She showed full support to the UESTC’s establishment of Confucius Institute at UM2 and offered valuable advice.
