On May 31, Des McLern, Head of School of Electronic and Electric Engineering and Director of Graduate Studies, University of Leeds, UK, came and visited UESTC along with Julia Wang, Senior International Officer. Officials of UESTC’s Office of International Exchange and Cooperation received the British guests.

The hosts elaborately informed the guests of the university’s historical development, disciplinary setting, overseas study programs, scholarship policies and international cooperation, especially with British universities.

Des McLern and Julia Wang also told their hosts about their faculties, research, teaching and international cooperation. Julia Wang expressed that, as a leading university in the UK, University of Leeds had been trying to seek opportunities to cooperate with overseas counterparts in education and student exchange, and that UESTC, as one of the universities with both Project 211 and Project 985, was such a potential partner for its unique academic features and strong influence on related disciplines, saying that she hoped to see a substantial cooperative tie between Leeds and UESTC which would provide better chances for students from both universities to grow and develop.

After the interview, the British guests visited School of Electronic Engineering and held a talk with the school officials, faculty members and students, exploring possibilities for cooperation in research as well as for launching bachelor (3+1+1), master (1+2) and Ph. D joint programs.
