Last Saturday (November 24th), International Students Office organized a trip to Luodai Ancient Town, located in eastern Chengdu, the largest Hakka community in southwest China. International students seized the opportunity to visit Hakka culture by themselves and were pleased to register for the trip.

After one hour’s driving, we arrived at the Jinlong Great Wall, where international students climbed for two hours. Despite the hiking was a little exhausting for some international students, they were stunned by the view when they reach the top of the mountain. Throughout the hiking, many local tourists freely talked with international students from different countries, while international students showed their kindness by taking pictures with local people. In this way, international students can not only feel the integration with Chinese people on campus, but also off campus.

Like many locals who spent weekends in Luodai Ancient Town, we became one of them. At the entrance, we can see the Chinese traditional style architecture along narrow streets on both sides. There are many stores selling Sichuan traditional food. All these traditional features attracted international students’ eyes. Several African students danced and chorused at an open space with the beat of an elaborated drum, attracting many tourists to stop and watch their performances.

In a shell, it is a pleasing trip for international students in that they saw the beauty of Chinese architecture and was warmly received by the local people.
