Welcome and Orientation Program for New Students

Under the guidance of School of International Education and with the support of Iinternational Students Union, Welcome and Orientation Program for New Students was organized by the Nigerian Students’ Association(NSA). It was a memorable time for students in UESTC as NSA welcomed new students from their country. The event which started at 3:50pm was designed to academically empowered new students and was opened to others interested nationalities to attend. In line with the theme of the event, the students were given five different lectures on how to maximize their potential and stay in China. Speakers like Sandra Obiora (2017/2018 most outstanding student in UESTC), Sanmi Ariyo (former Nigerian student country representative), Umar Ibrahim (former ISU vice president), Fidel Modecai Raju and Emem were given the task to equip the new students with all the required information to ensure their academic success. The topics discussed include: how to be an outstanding student, UESTC/Chinese rules and regulation, how to learn and master Chinese language and introduction to China.


The event was attended by the President of ISU, COSA and NSA, and they all encouraged the students to prioritize their academics in every decision they make. Students from Nigeria, Pakistan and other countries were in attendance and the event was spiced up with Chinese character writing practice. COSA president and his team facilitated Chinese character writing game section and there were song performances by Siaa Jack and Papa. The event was concluded at about 6:05 pm by the NSA president who stressed the need for academic excellence among Nigerian students and the international student community at large. The NSA team will continue to work hand in hand with all the international bodies in UESTC to ensure the academic success of international students.
