Campus Life

●How about accommodation? What the university provides?

UESTC will provide on-campus dormitory for international students: Single room for PhD students, and double room (two in a room) for Master, undergraduate students.

International students, who plan to live off-campus, shall inquire estate agency for more information. The university doesn’t provide lodgings for your accompanying personnel. Your family members or friends can choose to live in the hotels adjacent to the university or the UESTC hotel.

PS: When referring toaccomodation, it meansdormitoryin UESTC. Feeding is excluded from accommodation.

●How about eating on campus? What the university offers?

UESTC student canteen provides all kinds of dishes to meet various needs of students. Local style food, Muslim food and unique snacks from other provinces can be found here.

●What student organization can I join?

Rich facilities, wonderful logistic service and extracurricular activities ensure an exciting and vigorous life on campus! UESTC has more than 110 students’ associations: Networks Club, Telecommunication Club, Animation Club, Computer - fan Association, Football Association, Basketball Association, Volunteer Association, Painting Association, Chorus, Dancing Association, Calligraphy Association, Magic Club, Billiard Association, etc. And UESTC has three students’ associations exclusive for international students: International Students Union (ISU), Country League, and Chinese and Overseas Students Association (COSA).

Off campus Life

●Can I do my part-time job on or off campus?

The answer is YES. The Chinese immigration regulations allow foreign students to have part-time jobs only, and they restrict the amount of time(less than 10 hours per week) for a foreign student to work while attending universities. Jobs are plentiful and are often available on and off campus.

●Is it easy to find a part-time job on or near campus?

UESTC offers plentiful job opportunities for international students, such as working in university canteens, libraries, laboratories, and offices. And there are also a lot of job possibilities off campus.

●What is the weather like in this city?

Chengdu enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate, having warm and humid weather all year around. There are four discernable seasons, with an average annual temperature of 16 degrees centigrade and an average annual rainfall of 1,000 mm. Chengdu enjoys a frost-free period of over 300 days a year, experiencing sunshine for an average of over 1,200 hours yearly. Because it has long been endowed with a mild climate that is free form blood or drought, it has a vast amount of fertile land, rich in produce and prosperous industries. Therefore, Chengdu has been referred to since ancient times as the “ Land of Abundance”.

●Do you offer any activities to visit scenic spots?

Every semester, trips for international students will be organized by the School of International Education, and some of the trips are free of charge.

●Are there any cities worth visiting around Chengdu?

Chengdu, located in southwest People's Republic of China, is the capital of Sichuan province and a sub-provincial city. There are many famous cities near Chengdu, such as Chongqing, Xi’an, Wuhan, etc, which are worth visiting.
