Three Majors in UESTC Won the Engineering Education Professional Accreditation of the Ministry of Education
On June 30, the Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education and the China Engineering Education Professional Accreditation Association officially released the conclusion of the national engineering education professional accreditation in 2019 (CEEAA (2020) No. 15). The process were the self-evaluation by the university, examination by the professional certification committee, on-site inspection by the expert group, consideration by sub-committees and review by the certification conclusion review committee, etc. Microelectronic Science, Engineering, Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments and Software Engineering in UESTC won the engineering education professional accreditation of the Ministry of Education, entering the mutual recognition list of the Washington Agreement with a validity period of 6 years.
Carrying out accreditation serves as the basis of international recognition of engineer system and education, and an important starting point for the Ministry of Education to promote the reform of engineering education and improve the quality. The Washington Agreement is an international agreement on mutual recognition of undergraduate degrees in engineering education, and its requirements for the abilities and qualities of graduates and engineers equal to the authoritative requirements for the professional abilities of engineering graduates and engineers in the international engineering sector. China's formal accession to the Washington Agreement in 2016 marks the realization of international equivalence in the quality standards of engineering education in China. With accredited majors, graduates in China will be recognized by other members of the Washington Agreement in their degrees and academic qualifications for engineering work, and enjoy the same treatment as graduates from member countries.
UESTC attaches great importance to the professional accreditation of engineering education. Vigorously promoting the professional accreditation and professional evaluation of engineering education functions as an important measure to fully carry out UESTC’s action plan on fulfilling the fundamental task of moral education and implementing first-class undergraduate education and UESTC’s plan on fulfilling the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people and implementing the new engineering construction. Through years of exploration and practice, the university has established a working mechanism with the leadership of educational administration departments, the specific implementation of colleges and the cooperation of functional departments, forming a normalized mechanism for professional accreditation of engineering education. Starting with the professional accreditation and professional evaluation of engineering education, the university expands and adjusts the connotation and construction focus of traditional and advantageous engineering majors, and reconstructs the new curriculum system and new training model that conforms to the laws of engineering education, the characteristics of the times and the new needs of the industry's development to the high end of the value chain, so as to realize the international substantive equivalence of its training quality.
In accordance with the plan of the university, all outstanding engineer program majors and majors with a certain number of years and good conditions and foundation should deepen the engineering education reform, applying for the professional accreditation of engineering education one after another, so as to finally achieve its full coverage of all engineering majors.
